Bubble Wrap Central!
over 4 years ago – Sun, Nov 03, 2019 at 04:49:26 PM

Rewards are still pouring out into the world as the Twelfth Planet Press team work their way through the lists of books and other goodies that you all pledged to receive.

Terri brought us some exciting news last week with the announcement that the etched glasses are all finished and ready for shipping!

pretty gift boxes, in gold and TPP pink, stacked in a pyramid and ready to be posted.

If you're one of the backers who secured one of these beauties, watch your postbox over the next week or two. Don't worry, there will be LOTS of bubble wrap to make sure they get there safely.

Meanwhile, work continues on our next book project at Twelfth Planet Press: Rebuilding Tomorrow. If you haven't yet checked out the Pozible page for this fabulous anthology, please do so. We recently revealed our gorgeous cover art. Rewards now include canvas prints and mugs as well as books, pins and the planting of trees for a sustainable future.

One of the most important ideas that we follow here at TPP is making the books that reflect not only the actual diversity of the world around us, but also address the future we want to see. Defying Doomsday was an important book to us because it fought against the very dangerous idea that only the fit and the healthy will survive a huge world-destroying disaster. If anything, the opposite is true: those people lucky enough to survive an apocalypse are likely to have all manner of physical or mental issues to address and overcome, regardless of their state of health before it happened.

Defying Doomsday asked questions like -- how do you source essential medications when everyone is fighting to survive? How do you escape catastrophe when you don't have the ability to walk, let alone run?

Rebuilding Tomorrow will ask the next questions: where do we go from here? Survival is one thing, but what will the world after the apocalypse look like? How do we get there from here, with or without mobility aids?

This is science fiction, but it's hugely topical to the world we live in right now. Only last week, there was a media scare about the carbon footprint of asthma medication, as if breathing is a luxury we should be able to quit as easily as the able-bodied quit plastic grocery bags. Don't get me started on the plastic straw debate! We shouldn't have to choose between being environmentally aware and being disability aware -- and it's chilling how quickly those with special or extra needs are ignored or dismissed when others are trying to make a political point about humanity's collective responsibility.

The world has never needed a book like Rebuilding Tomorrow more than it does right now. An unapologetic book of positive and constructive futures, centring the narratives of protagonists with disabilities and chronic illness. The first step to building a better, more inclusive future, is imagining it.

Please join us over on Pozible to make Rebuilding Tomorrow a reality.

And writers -- especially those with chronic illness or disability (though you're not obliged to disclose that information to us!), we would love to receive your stories in our open submissions period (until January 2020) - the submission guidelines link is also on the Pozible page!

Rebuild Tomorrow With Us

Hi all

We've been busy at Twelfth Planet Press central, working on the Big Mail Out of Winter's Tale rewards... your books and other goodies will be on their way to you soon, if not already

And now we want to tell you all about our new project!

Rebuilding Tomorrow is a followup anthology to Defying Doomsday, which was an anthology of apocalypse-survival fiction with a focus on disabled characters. Rebuilding Tomorrow will also focus on disabled and/or chronically ill protagonists but set a significant time after the apocalyptic disaster. We want stories that show society getting back on its feet and people moving past subsistence-level existence into a new, sustainable world, even though it’s one that has been irrevocably changed by an apocalypse.

You’ll be hearing more about Rebuilding Tomorrow over the next few weeks. Not only is it going to be a fabulous addition to our range of crunch SFF anthologies here at Twelfth Planet Press, it will be launching at Worldcon in Wellington 2020!

We've chosen to run this campaign on Pozible, because we support worker's rights and have been deeply disappointed in Kickstarter's attitude towards its employees attempting to unionise. We support Kickstarter United, and hope that they are successful in their endeavours. We know that many of our supporters and readers have been likewise unhappy with Kickstarter's unsatisfactory response to this issue, and we have chosen to respond the only way we can -- by taking our business elsewhere, for now.

If you haven't used Pozible before, the interface has a few differences to Kickstarter, but is basically a very similar model, and we hope you'll follow us over there.

Check out our Rebuilding Tomorrow Pozible page for book rewards, enamel pins, and links to our submission guidelines. Plant trees with us for a hopeful future!
